NORWICH – Norwich held onto a two-run deficit until the top of the sixth inning when Binghamton’s offense was clicking, stringing together a few timely hits to run away with a 10-3 win over the host Purple Tornado in Monday’s contest.

Binghamton struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but Norwich answered in their first at-bats of the game as Tanner Franklin scored on a JT Vinal double.

The Patriots added two runs in the second and another score in the third inning but once again the Tornado responded to the second inning rally, tacking on one run to make the score 5-3.

Both teams saw four batters step up to the plate in the fourth inning with no runs scored. Norwich’s defense held Binghamton in the top of the fifth, sitting down three straight batters on infield hits to get the runner out at first.

The Tornado threatened in the bottom half of the inning when Eli Rodriguez had a lead-off single. He moved up to second on fielder’s choice then to third with a Kegan Wright single.

However, a strikeout for Dakota Franklin and a play by the shortstop to throw out Thomas Flanagan running down the line ended the chance for a score. Norwich left two runners on base during the stretch.
